When it comes to memory foam mattresses, every company promises that theirs is the most comfortable. But only one company claims that their mattresses really make it feel like sleeping on a cloud.
That’s right, we’re talking about Puffy and, while they started with just one mattress, they now have three models. The Puffy Lux is their most popular mattress model, and we have heard it is their most comfortable as well.
To see if it is really like sleeping on a cloud, read on for our full Puffy Lux mattress review.

Puffy Lux Mattress Overview
As we said, Puffy now offers three mattress models – the Puffy original, Puffy Lux, and Puffy Royal. Also, these three mattresses come in all-foam and hybrid versions – we reviewed the Puffy Lux all-foam mattress. The Puffy Lux mattress features multiple layers of soft memory foam and cooling infusions to keep sleepers from overheating at night.
While the Puffy Lux all-foam mattress does have its drawbacks, it should still be a good match for certain mattress shoppers:
Who Might Like The Puffy Lux?
- Light- and medium-weight side sleepers who are looking for excellent pressure relief on their shoulders and hips
- Back sleepers who require a good balance of comfort and support
- Sleepers who prefer some of that slow-moving memory foam feel
Who Might Not Like The Puffy Lux?
- Stomach sleepers and those who require more support from their mattress
- Larger side sleepers who need a mattress with a much thicker comfort layer
- Those who are looking for a more affordable memory foam mattress

Puffy Lux Mattress Firmness And Feel
Firmness and feel are two considerations every shopper should have when they are looking for the right mattress. Let’s see exactly how firm the Puffy Lux mattress is and what if feels like to lie on it.
How Firm Is The Puffy Lux Mattress?
In our experience, the Puffy Lux mattress felt like a 6.5/10, about medium in terms of firmness – the top two layers of memory foam are quite soft and then the mattress gets firmer the deeper we push in.
As with every mattress, the firmness of the Puffy Lux will depend greatly on the person who is sleeping on it. For instance, a lighter person might not press in so far and just feel the soft pressure relief of the memory foam – heavier people might press in further than us and could feel like the Puffy Lux if firmer.
Sleeping On The Puffy Lux Mattress
Back sleeping on the Puffy Lux mattress, we are experiencing an exceptional balance of comfort and support – our hips sink into the mattress just a bit, and the memory conforms to our every curve. The base foam is also offering good overall support to keep our bodies from dropping too far into the mattress.
Side sleeping on the Puffy Lux mattress, we are feeling some especially nice pressure relief on our shoulders and hips. The memory foam on top is really doing a good job of relieving pressure on our shoulders and hips. As we will discuss below, larger people might press further into the Puffy Lux and could feel some significant pressure on their shoulders and hips.
Stomach sleeping, the Puffy Lux is too soft to give us enough overall support – we can also feel our hips bowing into the mattress, and we are already starting to feel some strain in our lower backs.
What Does The Puffy Lux Feel Like?
Overall, the Puffy Lux features a classic memory foam feel; lying down, we feel like we are slowly sinking into the mattress. The memory foam is not as quicksandy as a Tempurpedic mattress, but it is still not very responsive.
Because of this, it is not very easy to move around on the Puffy Lux mattress, and we do feel like we are getting stuck sometimes.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
When average weight sleepers are on their backs, the majority of them should get the support and comfort that they need; as we experienced, they should feel good contouring from the memory foam and good support from the base foam.
Side sleeping, those who are under 200 lbs should feel excellent pressure relief on their shoulders and hips, but those who are heavier than that might press into the mattress and hit the support layers beneath.
Stomach sleeping, those who are close to 130 lbs might get enough support, but those who at the heavier end of this weight range will need more support under their hips.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
A good number of heavier back sleepers should find the Puffy Lux mattress to be a good match, but those who are 275 lbs or more will probably want to find a more supportive mattress that features coils.
Side sleeping, the majority of heavier people are going to feel too much pressure on their shoulders and hips, and they will want to find a mattress with a thicker comfort layer.
Heavier stomach sleepers will not get enough support when they are on the Puffy Lux mattress; they should feel their hips bowing into the mattress.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
Lightweight people should get enough comfort and support when they are back sleeping and side sleeping on the Puffy Lux mattress. Much lighter stomach sleepers could even receive enough support from the Puffy Lux mattress.

Puffy Lux Mattress Construction
Now, let’s pop the hood on the Puffy Lux mattress and see exactly how it is built and what materials are inside:
Cover
The Puffy Lux features a soft, thin, breathable cover that won’t affect the overall feel of the mattress.
Comfort Layers
On top, the Puffy Lux features a Cooling Cloud Layer – this is memory foam that is infused with gel to keep it from trapping a significant amount of heat.
Beneath that, there is a Plush Dual Cloud Layer – this is even more soft memory foam that will add more pressure relief for sleepers, especially on the shoulders and hips.
Finally, there is a Climate Comfort Layer – this is a responsive transition layer that adds some bounce to the top of the mattress. This foam is also designed to regulate body temperature during the night so that sleepers don’t overheat.
Support Layer
The Puffy Lux mattress features a Firm Core Support base layer that is high-density and, as the name suggests, supportive.
Mattress Height
The Puffy Lux is 12″ tall, which is an about average thickness for an all-foam mattress.

Puffy Lux Mattress Performance
We ran the Puffy Lux mattress through a gauntlet of tests for cooling, motion transfer, and durability – let’s see how the mattress fared!
Sleeping Hot Or Cold
The Puffy Lux all-foam model features memory foam on top and no coils in the base layer; based on this construction, we expect the mattress to trap some heat. Even though the Puffy Lux does contain gel to help with cooling, it might still make some sleepers heat up during the night, and no one wants this!
Motion Transfer
When we tested out the Puffy Lux mattress for motion transfer, it performed quite well – the memory foam on top is absorbing any real movement we make, so the Puffy Lux could be a good mattress for couples.
Edge Support
When we sit near the edge of the Puffy Lux mattress, it collapses a bit, but we don’t feel like we are going to fall forward and onto the floor. Sitting down, we are feeling some decent support and can roll around near the edge of the Puffy Lux mattress without falling or rolling off.
Durability
Considering the construction of the Puffy Lux and the density of the foams it features, we see it lasting for at least 7 to 10 years. This will depend on the weight of the owner and how often they use the Puffy Lux mattress, so know that this is just an estimation.
Off-gassing
Given that the Puffy Lux is a bed in a box mattress, there is naturally going to be some off-gassing. This is basically a slight chemical smell that accompanies any newly-unboxed online mattress, and it will dissipate after a few days.
Noise
The Puffy Lux is an all-foam mattress, so we did not expect to hear any significant noise when we moved around at night. We were not disappointed, and the Puffy Lux mattress was as quiet as a mouse when we repositioned and rolled around.
Sex
Couples who are ready to get intimate usually want a mattress that is bouncier and more responsive; this makes it easier to …move around. The Puffy Lux is a slower-moving mattress, so sexual partners might find themselves getting trapped and have trouble changing positions.
Warranty Info
The Puffy Lux mattress comes with a 101-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty.
How Does The Puffy Lux Compare To Other Mattresses?
Now, let’s do some comparison shopping – we will discuss how the Puffy Lux compares to other relevant mattresses.
Puffy Lux Vs Puffy
The Puffy original mattress is the company’s base model, and it is a bit thinner and simpler than the Puffy Lux mattress. Speaking of construction, the Puffy features one less memory foam layer than the Puffy Lux mattress.
Because of this, the mattresses have a different firmness and feel – the Puffy Lux is softer and has more of a slow-moving memory foam feel, and the Puffy original mattress is a bit firmer with more of a balanced foam feel. There are, of course, price differences as well – the Queen size Puffy original mattress costs around $600 less than the Puffy Lux mattress.
The Puffy Lux is going to be a better option for side sleepers and those who prefer more of a memory foam feel. The Puffy original mattress, on the other hand, should work better for those who like a balanced foam feel and want to spend less money on their purchase.
Puffy Lux Vs Purple
The Purple mattress is one of Puffy’s main competitors; its secret weapon is a proprietary gel grid that offers a perfect balance of comfort and support and superior breathability as well. While it features base foam like the Puffy Lux, the gel grid feels very different than the memory foam layers on top of the Puffy Lux; it is squishy and firm while the Puffy Lux has more of that classic memory foam feel.
In our experience, the two mattresses are close in terms of firmness, but this will depend on the weight of the sleeper. Lighter people might find the Purple to be firmer and the Puffy Lux to be softer; heavier people might think the Purple is softer and the Puffy Lux is softer.
One of the other major differences between the Puffy Lux and Purple is going to be price – for a Queen, the Purple costs about $600 less than the Puffy Lux.
The Puffy Lux is going to be a better match for lightweight side sleepers and those who want a mattress with a memory foam feel. The Purple should be good for heavier side sleepers, hot sleepers, and those who want a more affordable mattress.
