Dreamfoam Chill Mattress Video Review

Take the Dreamfoam Chill for a test spin (vicariously) with our in-depth video review! Our reviewer, Marten, will reveal each layer of this mattress’s construction and share his experiences with sleeping in every position on the Dreamfoam Chill.

Dreamfoam Chill Mattress Firmness And Feel

When you’re vetting a potential new mattress, it’s always a good idea to start by assessing said mattress’s firmness and feel. These factors will tell you a lot about whether the mattress in question is a good fit for your preferred sleep position(s) and other sleep needs. So let’s dive into the in-depth portion of this review with a look at the Dreamfoam Chill’s firmness and feel!

How Firm Is The Dreamfoam Chill?

We ranked the Dreamfoam Chill at around 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, this suggests the Dreamfoam Chill is a touch firmer-than-average.

That said, note that firmness is slightly subjective. Depending on your body weight and personal preferences, you might rank this mattress a hair firmer or softer.

Sleeping On The Dreamfoam Chill

We found the Dreamfoam Chill to be a good match for back sleeping. We enjoyed a pleasant balance of comfort and spinal support in this position.

Dreamfoam Chill - Back Sleeping

In our experience, the Dreamfoam Chill is a bit too firm for side sleeping. We felt some pressure around the shoulder and hip, and it’s unlikely that strict side sleepers will be able to stay comfortable through the night. Folks who prefer this position should consider a dedicated mattress for side sleepers.

The Dreamfoam Chill is probably not supportive enough for most stomach sleepers. Our hips bowed into the mattress a bit and tugged the spine out of alignment.

What Does The Dreamfoam Chill Feel Like?

Thanks to the use of memory foam in the Dreamfoam Chill’s top comfort layer, this mattress has a bit of the slow-moving feel that’s a staple of memory foam. There’s not much bounce right on top of the mattress, but there are some bouncier layers underneath the memory foam. This means you shouldn’t feel stuck in this bed.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

Average weight back sleepers should enjoy a balance of comfort and spinal support on the Dreamfoam Chill. Average weight side and stomach sleepers might not fare as well: Side sleepers are likely to experience too much pressure around the shoulder and hip, while stomach sleepers will probably find that this mattress feels too soft.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh between 230 and 250 pounds should enjoy a pleasant balance of spinal support and comfort on the Dreamfoam Chill. Folks who weigh more than 250 pounds will probably want to look for a more supportive mattress for heavy people. Heavyweight side sleepers are all but guaranteed to experience too much pressure on this mattress, while heavyweight stomach sleepers will almost certainly find that this bed doesn’t feel supportive enough.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

Lightweight sleepers should fare pretty well on the Dreamfoam Chill. Back sleepers will enjoy a balance of comfort and support, some lightweight side sleepers might actually feel that they receive enough pressure relief, and lightweight stomach sleepers should be adequately supported.

Dreamfoam Chill Mattress Construction

Now that you have a sense of what it’s like to sleep on top of the Dreamfoam Chill, let’s take a look at what’s inside of this mattress! We’ll assess each layer of this mattress’s construction and share how different materials influence performance.

Cover

The Dreamfoam Chill features a soft and breathable cover that’s made with an environmentally-friendly Nano Stain Terminator finish. This material helps protect the mattress from splashes, spills, and permanent stains.

Comfort Layers

The primary comfort layer on the Dreamfoam Chill consists of a gel swirl memory foam. This material has the slow-moving feel that’s classic to memory foam, and it’s infused with gel to help with cooling. On the 12” and 14” models, there’s a transition layer below the memory foam layer. This transition layer is made of higher-density foam that keeps sleepers from sinking too far into the mattress.

Support Layer

The Dreamfoam Chill’s support layer is made from a high-density base foam that lends structure to the mattress overall. This layer comes in several thickness options.

Mattress Height

The Dreamfoam Chill comes in five height options: 6”, 8”, 10”, 12”, and 14”. We reviewed the 12” version.

Dreamfoam Chill Mattress Performance

You can learn a lot about a mattress from its firmness, feel, and construction, but there are still a few more factors to consider before you decide whether the Dreamfoam Chill is the best mattress for you. We put this mattress through a range of tests with regard to temperature regulation, edge support, motion transfer, and more. Let’s see how it performed!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

“Chill” is in the name of the Dreamfoam Chill, so it might not come as a surprise that this mattress boasts several cooling design features. Those include a breathable cover, open-celled foams, and a gel infusion in the memory foam comfort layer.

Motion Transfer

Memory foam usually absorbs motion well. But even with its memory foam comfort layer, the Dreamfoam Chill doesn’t do a great job of minimizing motion transfer. The firmer foams underneath the memory foam are bouncier and more responsive, so they allow movement to travel across the mattress.

Edge Support

In our experience, the edge support on the Dreamfoam Chill is nothing to write home about. The edges collapsed under us while we were sitting and lying down near the edge.

Dreamfoam Chill - Edge Support

Durability

This is a value mattress, so it’s not the most durable bed around. With good care, expect the Dreamfoam Chill to last for approximately 5 to 7 years.

Off-Gassing

We did observe some initial off-gassing from the Dreamfoam Chill. This should dissipate within a few days.

Noise

We did not observe any notable noise while moving around on the Dreamfoam Chill, probably because it’s an all-foam mattress.

Sex

The best mattress for sex makes it easy for partners to change positions on top of the bed. Even though the Dreamfoam Chill has a bit of a slow-moving feel, it has enough bounce that it should be okay. Partners shouldn’t feel stuck in this bed.

Company Policies

Now, let’s take a gander at the Dreamfoam fine print. This is always a good idea when you are shopping for a new mattress!

Warranty Info

The Dreamfoam Chill comes with a 10-year mattress warranty that covers defects or deterioration in the foam as well as comfort impressions of more than 1 inch. It does not cover normal wear and tear and is void if you use the incorrect support system.

Sleep Trial

You have 120 nights to try out the Dreamfoam Chill and decide if it is the right mattress for you.

Return Policy

If you try out your Dreamfoam Chill mattress for 30 days and it is working well for you, Dreamfoam can help in a few ways. First, they may provide you with a topper to change the firmness of your mattress. They may also recommend switching the Dreamfoam mattress with another of their Brooklyn Bedding mattresses. Finally, if they can’t find the right mattress for you, you can return for a full refund.

How Does The Dreamfoam Chill Compare To Other Mattresses?

If you’re considering the Dreamfoam Chill, then you might also be looking at other offerings from Brooklyn Bedding. We’ve pitted the Dreamfoam Chill against the original Brooklyn Bedding mattress, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature, so you can do some comparison shopping right here in this review. Let’s see how these two mattresses stack up!

Also, make sure to take a look at our other Brooklyn Bedding mattress comparisons.

Dreamfoam Chill vs. Brooklyn Bedding Signature

While the Dreamfoam Chill is an all-foam mattress that layers memory foam over higher-density foams, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a hybrid mattress that layers foams over supportive coils.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature - Construction

Because of their different constructions, these beds also boast different feels. The Dreamfoam Chill has a fairly slow-moving feel on top, while the Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a bit bouncier thanks to its inclusion of coils.

These beds differ a bit when it comes to firmness. The Dreamfoam Chill 12″ model comes we ranked around 7/10 on the firmness scale. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature comes in three firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm. The Medium model is a bit softer than the Dreamfoam Chill 12″ model.

One of the most dramatic differences between these beds is their price. A Queen-size, 12” Dreamfoam Chill costs $499 at full price, while a Queen-size Brooklyn Bedding Signature costs quite a bit more at $999 at full price.
