Casper and Layla are two mattress that sell primarily online (though Casper can be found at West Elm and its showrooms, and Layla can be found at Nest Bedding showrooms). Both mattresses are all foam and have some similar characteristics, but some important differences as well.
Read on for my full Casper vs Layla mattress comparison.
Key Similarities
- Both all-foam mattresses
- Both sold primarily online and shipped in a box
- Both have generous return policies and sleep trials
Key Differences
- Layla is all memory foam, while Casper is a latex-like foam over memory foam
- Layla is flippable (with two firmness options), Casper is not flippable with just one firmness option
- Layla is copper-infused, Casper is not
- Casper has more bounce (more latex feel), Layla has less bounce (more memory foam feel)
Construction
Both mattresses are 10 inches thick. Layla consists of:
- 3 inches of copper-infused memory foam
- 6 inches of polyfoam
- 1 inch of copper-infused memory foam
Note Layla has memory foam on both sides because it is flippable. Casper consists of 4 layers of foam:
- High Elasticity Comfort Foam
- Visco Elastic Memory Foam
- Proprietary Transition Foam
- Polyurethane Support Foam
Price
A queen Layla goes for $899, and a queen Casper goes for $950, so about $50 difference. Significant, but I wouldn’t make the decision between them just based on price. Both companies also regularly have coupons available for ~$50, so don’t ever pay full price.

You should pick Casper if…
- You want the name brand – though Casper is still a “startup” company, it is certainly the best-known (and largest) online mattress company.
- You want a little more bounce – Casper is designed to have a little more “bounce” than the typical foam mattress, and it does (still not anywhere near an innerspring mattress bounce).
- You want a medium-firm feel – Casper comes in one firmness setting, targeting the average sleeper. In my experience, I felt like both sides of the Layla were softer than the Casper.

You should pick Layla if…
- You believe in the benefits of Copper – copper is infused to make the mattress sleep cool. I don’t vouch for the science (just because I don’t know it), but I did find the mattress to sleep cooler than the average memory foam mattress
- You want a flippable mattress – not sure what firmness you want exactly? Layla offers two choices (compared to the typical one). Then you can always mix it up in the future as well.
- You want a memory foam feel – Layla is all memory foam, so it has more of a slow-moving foam feel compared to Casper.

Overall
I do like both of these mattresses, I think with pretty similar price points, it comes down to the feel. If you like the memory foam feel (and value the infused copper and flippable components), definitely Layla. If you prefer a mattress with a bit more bounce, Casper it is.
