Bear and Nectar are two popular mattresses that use memory foam in their construction. A few people have emailed us asking us to compare the two mattresses, so we have put together this article to go over the main similarities and differences to help you make a more informed decision.

Key Differences
- Bear Mattress is made in the USA, while Nectar is made in China

- Nectar uses gel memory foam, while Bear uses graphite gel memory foam
- Nectar is one inch thicker overall overall and has a thicker comfort layer

Bear Construction
You can see from the picture below generally what the construction of the Bear mattress is. The cover is woven with celliant fibers. Celliant potentially has several health benefits for you and I would encourage you to learn more about it. The top layer is graphite gel memory foam. This foam has been shown to be much more breathable than regular memory foam or just gel memory foam. The second and third layers are called Response Foam. It is a specialty poly foam that is resilient and durable. It means you won’t feel like you sink in too much and get stuck in the mattress. The support layer is a 1.8 lb. density poly foam.
Nectar Construction
The picture below shows off the different layers of the Nectar mattress. The cover is made from tencel and cotton and is quilted with gel memory foam . The first layer is one inch of gel memory foam and is faster-responding than most memory foam. The next layer is 3 inches of more memory foam and then there is a high-density poly foam support layer.

Construction Differences/Notes
- The Nectar is 11 inches thick, while the Bear is 10 inches thick
- The Nectar uses multiple layers of memory foam, while Bear only uses memory foam in the top one inch. The Bear uses two layers of latex-like foam underneath the memory foam layer
- Bear uses celliant in its cover, which may have certain health benefits
- I expect the durability of the Bear to be slightly better than the Nectar
- I expect the Bear to be slightly better at sleeping cool because of the celliant cover and the use of graphite gel memory foam
- The Nectar will have more of a true memory foam feel where you slowly sink into the mattress more than you do with the Bear
Firmness/Feel Differences
I believe that the Nectar is very slightly softer than the Bear. Firmness is subjective but I think most people would agree with that. The Bear is also more responsive because of the use of latex-like foam underneath the small memory foam layer. The videos below will show off the general feel of each of the two mattresses.
Motion Transfer Differences
Both of these mattresses do very well with motion transfer. I would probably give a slight edge to Nectar just because it uses multiple layers of memory foam versus the Bear mattress just using one. The videos below will show off how they perform with this.
What Should You Base Your Decision On?
- Made in USA vs China– I probably care less than others do about this, but the Bear is made in the US and the Bear is made in China
- Price Differences– No matter what discounts/coupons are currently available, the Nectar will be cheaper
- Extras– The Bear uses celliant in its cover and uses an advanced graphite gel memory foam. Those are nice extras that some may value
- Shipping– Nectar is currently facing shipping delays
- Firmness Level– I believe that the Nectar is slightly softer than the Bear
- Feel– The Nectar gives you more of a true memory foam feel, while the Bear is more responsive
Overall
These mattresses seem to be pretty similar at first, but hopefully I’ve showed you that there are some key differences that should sway you one way or another.
