The Purple is one of the most durable mattresses I have come across. It features a hyper-elastic gel polymer in its construction. The polymer forms a gel grid that is much more durable than the foams you find in many bed-in-a-box mattresses. It shouldn’t sag even after many years of use.

The original Purple mattress has 2″ of this gel grid on top of foam. While this is a very durable mattress, the new Purple mattresses should be even more durable. The Purple 2, 3, and 4 include high-grade coils and thick gel grid layers. If you are a larger person or want a thicker comfort layer, these new Purple mattresses might be a better choice.

Besides being very durable, the Purple mattresses are also a great fit for all three sleeping positions. The gel grid is designed to stay flat and supportive until a certain amount of pressure is applied. When this happens, the grid collapses just in that area.

The mattress has latex over a memory foam layer over a base layer. Latex is a naturally durable material, and the memory foam is also high-density. Altogether, the mattress should be a good long-term investment.

The GhostBed is one of the firmer mattresses on this list. Because of this, it is a good choice for back and stomach sleepers. Even heavier people should get the support they need on the GhostBed mattress.

In general, it is hard to find a mattress this durable for such a low price.

Marten’s Take

Marten is a staff writer for us. He has a much different body type than me: He is 6’7″ and weighs about 230 lb; I am 5’9″ and 160 lb. Here is what he thought about these mattresses:

First, I reviewed the WinkBeds Plus. It’s made specifically for larger people like me. It’s very supportive and durable. You have high-density foams on top and high-grade coils beneath that. It shouldn’t sag.

Then, we have the GhostBed. This was a good fit for me when I was on my back and stomach. It was also very supportive.

The Purple is a great choice for heavier sleepers who sleep in any position. It’s a great fit whether I am on my back, side, or stomach.

The Bloom Hybrid is the best fit for heavier back sleepers. My hips sunk in just the right amount, but not too far. It felt great when I was on my back.

The Loom & Leaf is a great choice for heavier side sleepers. It feels a bit firm at first, but it does soften up after a few moments. I feel great pressure relief on my shoulders and hips.

It seems Marten thought all five mattresses could be a good fit for him. This is not really surprising. These are all very durable mattresses, and durability is usually accompanied by a decent amount of support.

What Should You Consider When Finding A Mattress That Won’t Sag?

• Foam density. Mattresses often sag because there is a layer of low-density foam somewhere in the construction. If you want a foam mattress that won’t sag, pay close attention to the foam density. If you choose a mattress that is 2.5- or 3-lb foam, it might start to sag. Pick a mattress with 4- or 5-lb density foam, and you shouldn’t have issues with sagging.
• The type of foam. Along with density, you also want to consider the type of foam. If you want a mattress that won’t sag, latex foam is going to be your best bet. It is responsive, bouncy, and durable. This natural product can handle heavier weights without sagging.
• A mattress with coils. If you want a mattress that isn’t going to sag, take a look at something with coils. These add an extra level of support and durability. The coils will help support heavier weights while also fighting sagging in the mattress.

Overall

Sagging mattresses are the worst. If you want to avoid sagging, consider one of these five mattresses. If you want to look elsewhere, make sure the mattress has high-density foams and/or coils. Then lie back and enjoy your durable, long-lasting mattress.
