Recently, Linenspa has become a very popular producer of bedding, mattress toppers, and mattresses. One of their most popular mattresses is the Linenspa 8″ Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress.

The mattress features a simple hybrid design and is priced very competitively. For a low price, you get a hybrid mattress with soft memory foam and steel coils.

Given how popular the mattress is, I was very excited to see if the Linenspa was both comfortable and affordable.

Is this the value bed-in-a-box mattress you’ve been looking for? Read on for my full review.

You Might Want To Pick The Linenspa If …

  • You are looking for a value mattress. If you want a comfortable mattress that will not cost you too much money up front, the Linenspa should be a good choice. It is very affordable when compared to its competitors.
  • You need a mattress for a lightweight person. The Linenspa should be a great match for lighter people, kids, and teenagers. It’s a simple mattress that should be supportive for people of this size. In addition, the mattress could be a good fit for the guest room.
  • You are a stomach sleeper. The Linenspa has a thinner comfort layer. Because of this, stomach sleepers should mostly feel the support of the coils. Your hips should be properly supported so your spine is in proper neutral alignment.
  • You are a light- or medium-weight back sleeper. If you aren’t too heavy, the mattress could also work for back sleeping. You should feel some comfort and contouring from the top comfort layer and then the support of the coils beneath that.

You Might Not Want To Pick The Linenspa If …

  • You are a larger person. If you are a heavier person, the Linenspa probably won’t be supportive enough for you. You might press right through the mattress. If you are larger, consider a thicker mattress with more supportive layers.
  • You are a side sleeper. If you sleep primarily on your side, the Linenspa probably isn’t the best match. The comfort layer is only 1.5” thick, so you might press through that and feel some pressure on your shoulders and hips. Side sleepers will want to look for a mattress with a thicker comfort layer.
  • You want a long-term investment. While the Linenspa is very affordable, it is not the most durable mattress. The components aren’t really premium, so they might start to weaken and sag more quickly than those you would find in a more luxury mattress. If you want something to last you for a good amount of time, you might have to pay more.

Construction Overview

  • The mattress is 8” tall.
  • The cover is thin and soft. It is quilted with memory foam.
  • Then you have 1.5” of comfort foam.
  • The base is 6.5” of steel coils.

Construction Takeaways

  • Overall, the Linenspa features a simple, streamlined construction.
  • Given that the mattress only has 1.5” of foam in the comfort layer, the Linenspa is a better match for back and stomach sleepers. The mattress will probably not offer the best pressure relief for side sleepers.
  • While the memory foam is slower-moving, it isn’t too thick. When you add that together with the coils, the mattress should have a responsive, hybrid feel. You shouldn’t be getting stuck in the mattress.

Firmness And Feel

In terms of firmness, I thought the Linenspa was close to a 7.5/10. You have a very soft comfort foam layer on top, but it is only 1.5″ thick. This soft top layer, combined with the firm coils, makes the mattress just firmer than average.

Linenspa

Here is how I felt in different sleeping positions:

  • While lying on my back, I feel nice on the Linenspa. My hips sink in just the right amount, and the memory foam adds some nice contouring. I feel well supported overall. Light- and medium-weight back sleepers should find the Linenspa to be a good match.
  • Moving to my side, I am feeling some serious pressure on my shoulders and hips. I press through the thin comfort layer and hit the coils. Unless they are very light, most side sleepers should have a similar experience on the Linenspa.
  • When I’m on my stomach, the Linenspa is properly supportive. I mostly feel the coils when I am in this position, and they’re ensuring my hips don’t sink in. I feel like I am in good alignment.

Overall, the Linenspa has a simple hybrid mattress feel. You get a bit of that balance of comfort and support as well as some bounce. It is a balanced feel, so it shouldn’t be difficult to move around on the mattress.

Motion Transfer

If you sleep with a partner, it is definitely important to consider how well your mattress handles motion transfer. Will you feel every move your partner makes on their side of the bed, or will you be sleeping soundly?

To test out the motion transfer on the Linenspa, I first placed a glass of water on top of the mattress. While pushing into the surrounding areas, I did not see too much disturbance in the water. Also, when I laid on the mattress and asked Marten to move around on the other side, I barely felt his movements.

I would say the Linenspa isolates motion well and could be a good mattress for couples.

Edge Support

If you sleep with a partner or simply want to use all of your mattress, it’s also worth thinking about edge support. When sitting or lying down near the edge, will you be secure or will you feel like you’re going to fall off?

While sitting near the edge of the Linenspa, the foam collapses quite a bit. I don’t feel very secure in this position. Also, when I lie down near the edge, I feel like I might roll off the mattress.

In the end, the Linenspa does not feature the best edge support.

Marten’s Take

Marten is a staff writer for us. He has a much different body type than me: He is 6’7″ and weighs about 230 lb; I am 5’9″ and 160 lb. Here is what he thought about the mattress:

Joe said this mattress was a 7.5/10, and I thought it was closer to an 8/10. I am a larger person, and the comfort layer on this mattress is pretty thin. I press right through that layer, and I am mostly feeling the coils on this mattress.

Here is how I felt in different sleeping positions:

  • While lying on my back, the mattress is an okay match for me. However, I am mostly feeling coils and not really feeling lumbar support from the foam on top. I am dropping through the mattress.
  • When I move to my side, I am feeling too much pressure on my shoulders and hips. I press through the top layer and feel firm coils on my shoulders and hips.
  • On my stomach, I do feel supported overall.

If you are a heavier stomach sleeper, it is possible the Linenspa could work for you. If you are a heavier back or side sleeper, I would look elsewhere.

Marten’s experience is what I expected. He is a larger person, so he presses right through the comfort layer. While he gets what he needs on his stomach, the mattress is much too firm for him when he is on his back and side. All in all, the Linenspa is not the best match for heavier people.

Unboxing This Mattress

The Linenspa is a bed-in-a-box mattress, which means it will come compressed and shipped straight to you.

You will want to begin by removing the rolled up Linenspa mattress from its box. Then, preferably with another person’s assistance, position the roll on your bed.

Carefully cut away the first layers of plastic until the still-compact mattress can be laid down flat. Then, pierce through the final layer of plastic and the Linenspa will expand.

Simply clear away the excess plastic and allow your mattress to breathe and fully expand.

What Makes The Linenspa Stand Out?

  • It is a comfortable mattress sold for a very low price.
  • The Linenspa should be a great match for lightweight people, children, and teens.
  • The mattress should offer nice support for stomach sleeping.
  • Light- and medium-weight back sleepers should also find the mattress to be a good match.

Overall

In the end, the Linenspa should be a nice choice for lighter people who want to save money on a comfortable mattress. Heavier people and those who want something for side sleeping might want to look elsewhere.

The mattress comes with a 10-year warranty. The company also offers a 10″ hybrid model as well as a 12″ Gel Memory Foam hybrid and a latex hybrid.
