If you have been searching for affordable bed-in-a-box mattresses, you have probably come across Lucid’s line of mattresses. They have a wide array of options, all sold at a value price.
The Lucid 10″ Memory Foam Hybrid is one of their most popular models. It features very soft memory foam as well as supportive coils. And, like the rest of the Lucid mattresses, it is very competitively priced.
Is this hybrid mattress a comfortable value? Read on for my full review.

You Might Want To Pick The Lucid If…
- You are looking for a value mattress. Considering the quality construction of the Lucid, I expected it to cost much more. It is priced very competitively when you compare it to other hybrid mattresses. You could save some money if you choose the Lucid.
- You want a balance of comfort and support. The Lucid has soft comfort layers and then supportive layers beneath that. If you want a mattress that is both comfortable and supportive, the Lucid could be a good choice.
- You are a light- or medium-weight side sleeper. If you sleep on your side and you aren’t too heavy, the Lucid should work for you. You should press into those soft comfort layers and feel some nice pressure relief on your shoulders and hips.
- You are a back sleeper. Given the balance of comfort and support, the Lucid is also a great match for back sleeping. The top layers allow your hips to sink in while they also contour to the curves of your body. At the same time, the coils keep your hips from sinking in and offer nice overall support.
You Might Not Want To Pick The Lucid If…
- You are a stomach sleeper. If you sleep primarily on your stomach, the Lucid is probably not the best match. It is close to medium-firm and might not offer the support you need when you are on your stomach. Stomach sleepers will most likely want to look for a firmer mattress.
- You want a firmer mattress. While the Lucid does offer some support, it is only medium-firm. If you want a mattress that is firmer-than-average or very firm, the Lucid might not work for you.
- You are a heavier side sleeper. If you are a larger person and you sleep on your side, the Lucid might not be the best choice. The top layers are very soft so you might press right through those and hit the firmer layers beneath. Because of this, you could feel some more pressure on your shoulders and hips.
- You are a hot sleeper. While the mattress does have some cooling features, it might not be the best match for very hot sleepers. You have a few layers of memory foam on top which could trap heat and direct it back at you. If you sleep hot, you might want to look elsewhere.
Construction Overview
- The mattress is 10” tall.
- The cover is soft and thin.
- The top layer is 2.5” of bamboo charcoal and aloe vera-infused memory foam.
- Then you have two 1” foam transition layers.
- Finally, there are 5.5” of individually-encased steel coils.
Construction Takeaways
- The mattress should be quite breathable. The top memory foam is infused with bamboo charcoal for heat dissipating and is ventilated for airflow. The coils also promote airflow throughout the mattress.
- The top layer of memory foam is also infused with aloe vera. This can help you relax and also has anti-inflammatory properties.
- Combined, the top layers have a soft, slower-moving feel. You get a bit of that quicksand memory foam feel.
- The design of the mattress should offer a balance of comfort and support. You get pressure relief from the soft top layers and the support of steel coils.
- The steel coils are very supportive and should be able to handle heavier weights. Even if you are a larger person, the Luci should be supportive enough for you.

Firmness And Feel
In terms of firmness, I thought the Lucid felt like a 6.5/10. The top layers are very soft but, once you press in, you will feel the firm, supportive coils. When you combine all the layers, the Lucid is about average in terms of firmness.
Here is how I feel in different sleeping positions:
- Lying on my back, I feel like the Lucid is a good match. The top layers feature some nice contouring and my hips sink in easily. However, the coils stop them from sinking in too far. Overall, it is a great fit for back sleeping.
- Moving to my side, I am getting some great pressure relief on the Lucid. I sink into the soft comfort layer and feel almost no pressure on my shoulders and hips. I think most light- and medium-weight side sleepers will feel the same. However, if you are larger, you could press further into the mattress and feel some more pressure on your shoulders and hips.
- On my stomach, the Lucid is not quite supportive enough for me. My hips are sinking into the mattress, and I feel myself bowing in. The mattress is probably not the best bet for stomach sleeping.
While the Lucid contains coils, overall it has more of a memory foam feel. The top layers are slow to respond so you get more of that quicksandy memory foam feel. You slowly sink into the mattress, and it might be difficult to move around.
Motion Transfer
If you sleep with a partner, you will want to know how well your mattress deals with motion transfer. If you are sleeping on one side of the mattress and your partner moves around on the other side, will you feel that movement? Will it disturb you?
To test the motion isolation of the Lucid mattress, I first placed a glass of water on the mattress. When I pushed into the other areas of the mattress, the water was barely disturbed. Also, I lay on the Lucid while Marten moved around on the other side. I barely felt his movements.
Overall, I would say the Lucid is a good mattress for couples.
Edge Support
Edge support is also worth considering if you sleep with a partner or just want to use the full surface area of your mattress. Sitting or lying down near the edge of your mattress, will you feel secure or like you are going to roll off?
Sitting on the edge of the Lucid hybrid mattress, the top foam layers collapse quite a bit. I don’t very secure in this position. Also, when I lie near the edge, I do feel like I might roll off the mattress.
The Lucid hybrid doesn’t feature the best edge support.
Marten’s Take
Marten is a staff writer for us. He has a much different body type than me: He is 6’7″ and weighs about 230 lb; I am 5’9″ and 160 lb. Here is what he thought about the mattress:
Joe said it was a 6.5/10. I thought it was closer to a 7/10. I am a larger person so I press into the mattress and feel some more firmness than Joe did.
Here is how I feel in different sleeping positions.
- On my back, I feel very nice. My hips sink in the right amount, and I am getting some decent lumbar support as well. It is great for back sleeping.
- Moving to my side, I am feeling some pressure on my shoulders and hips, but not too much. I will say that if you are larger than 230 lbs, you might feel even more pressure.
- When I move to my stomach, I am not getting quite enough support. I am bowing in at the hips.
The Linenspa is a good match if you are a heavier back sleeper. The mattress might not be soft enough for some larger side sleepers. Larger stomach sleepers should definitely look elsewhere.
As a larger person, Marten pressed further into the mattress than I did. Because of this, he felt some more pressure, especially when he was on his side. Also, being bigger, the mattress was even less supportive when he was on his stomach.
Unboxing The Lucid Mattress
The Lucid is a bed-in-a-box mattress, which means it will come compressed and shipped straight to you. You will want to begin by removing the rolled up Lucid mattress from its box. Then, preferably with another person’s assistance, position the roll on your bed.
Carefully cut away the first layers of plastic until the still-compact mattress can be laid down flat. Then, pierce through the final layer of plastic and the Lucid will expand. Simply clear away the excess plastic and allow your mattress to breathe and fully expand.
What Makes This Mattress Stand Out?
- It is a very affordable, comfortable mattress.
- The mattress features a balance of comfort and support so it could be a good match for most back sleepers.
- As long as you are not too heavy, the Lucid Hybrid should offer great pressure relief.
- It contains soft memory foam which serves to cut down on motion transfer. The Lucid could be a good match for couples.
Overall
In the end, the Lucid Hybrid should be a good match for back sleepers and lighter side sleepers who are looking for a good deal. Stomach sleepers and heavier side sleepers might want to look elsewhere.
The mattress comes with a 10-year Warranty. Lucid also offers a 12″ version as well as many other models.
